總統自由獎章平民最高榮譽

美國總統自由獎章由美國前總統約翰甘迺迪設立於1963年，每年表揚在藝術、體育和政界的先驅者，是美國平民最高榮譽，但受獎者不一定是美國公民。

總統自由獎章的前身為前總統杜魯門在1945年創立的「自由獎章」，為的是表揚二戰期間對美國和盟國有貢獻者，1963 年甘迺迪更改得獎資格、擴大得獎對象，沿用至今。

每年得獎者由總統決定或經由推薦，人數不固定，也沒有固定領域；有人過世後才得獎，也有人兩度獲獎。美國政府雖然希望總統於每年美國獨立紀念日頒獎，但最後決定權仍在總統。此外，該獎也不是一定每年頒發，例如2001年。小布希總統就因911事件停辦。
